4 Top Dog Owner Mistakes
Dog owners always have the best of intentions, but sometimes these common mistakes happen.
1. Not socializing young puppies: We have all seen adult dogs that bark at new people, other dogs, and strange objects. That is because they were not introduced and socialized to as many things as possible from 8-16 weeks. During this time frame, your puppy is a little sponge, and his experiences now will determine how he responds to his environment for years to come.
2. Free feeding: Letting your dog each when they want and how much can lead to obesity and many other health problems, as well as make house training extremely difficult. Keep your pup on a regular food and water schedule from the very beginning and stick to it.
3. Failing to set rules: Dogs thrive when they know what is expected of them. They love to please, and often just need to know what we want them to do. Train your dog properly so they know just what it is we want them to do.
4. Letting your dog walk you: Dogs relax when they are not in charge. Teach your dog good leash manners so that you can enjoy your walks and not have to worry about them barking at people and other dogs. Also, it can be dangerous for both you and your dog when he is pulling you down the street.
