Whether or not your dog is a swimmer, any dog can benefit from the exercise and adventure that comes from splashing in the water. If you are looking for some Schaumburg area places to let your dog splish and splash, we have compiled a list of some of our favorite spots. From your backyard to a day trip, getting your dog in the water might be easier than you think.

In your backyard
If you are looking to give your dog some water time, but don’t want to go too far, look no further than your backyard. Water play in the backyard is great for puppies, for dogs that are just learning how to swim, or for dogs who don’t need a lake to satisfy their swimming desires. You can play with your dog (and the whole family) with a fun squirt gun fight, or hook up an inexpensive sprinkler for your dog to explore. Kiddie pools are another rather inexpensive way to let your dog get wet, or you can play fetch with balls or toys that were soaked in water.

Nearby
If you are looking for a way to get in the water beyond your backyard tricks, there are a few spots that are a short drive from the Schaumburg area. Before you head out, be sure that you research the rules; most dog parks require immunization records to be on file as well as a registration or permit. Further, if you plan on letting your dog go off-leash, assure that you are confident in his response to the “come” command. While most dog parks boast friendly and playful dogs, it is still important for you to keep your eyes out for the health and safety of your dog.

The Schaumburg Park District’s dog park offers water features, as do dog parks in nearby DuPage County. You can also head into the city to take advantage of any one of the park district’s dog beach locations.

Day Trips
Finally, if you are looking for an adventure for the whole family that includes plenty of water play for humans and for dogs, a day trip might be just the ticket. Check out Starved Rock’s waterfalls or Matthiesen State Park’s punch bowl area (it’s near Starved Rock and is significantly less crowded but no less beautiful). You can also explore the Kankakee River area or Rock Cut State Park near Rockford. Any of these state parks offer water and trails that are ready to be explored!
