At Dog Training Now, we see firsthand the many emotions of dog owners. Sure, we see some frustrations, but are fortunate enough to see real examples of unconditional love, pride, and joy as owners and dogs build their relationship. As we wrap up the turkey and stuffing after Thanksgiving, we all work hard to hold the feeling of gratitude in our heart for the remainder of the (sometimes stressful) holiday season.

In hopes of reminding you why dog owners are some of the luckiest folks on the planet, we present our reasons why we think that dog owners have so much to be thankful for.

Dogs make us laugh.

We know that DTN dog owners have some of the best stories of dog attitudes or situations. We know dogs make us laugh because our dogs make us smile and laugh every day. Whether it’s the puppy that prances around while playing with their favorite toy or the older dog that has to turn exactly four and a half rotations before lying down, dogs of all ages make us happier simply by making us laugh with them, or at them.

Dogs love us no matter what.

Unconditional love is personified when our dogs love us even when it feels like no one else does. Our dogs don’t care if you made a huge mistake at work or had a bad parenting moment. They are always there to give us a nudge with their cold nose and remind us that we are worth loving.

Dog cuddles.

Need we say more? Whether your 100 pound dog thinks he is a lap dog, or your tiny dog fits perfectly near you on the couch, getting some snuggles from your dog is one of the best parts of the day.

Dogs get us active.

Dogs love to move and encourage us to do the same. Long walks, hikes in the forest preserve, or playing catch in the backyard gets us moving and making better decisions for our health. Your dog – and you – feel better after moving together.

Dogs are excellent listeners.

Ever feel like no one is listening to what you have to say? That feeling of isolation is common in today’s less-connected world. Thankfully, our dogs always have a listening ear for us. Whether the ear is floppy, long, short, or pointed, it is always there.

We are thankful for our dogs and we are thankful for our owners who allow us into their family. Cheers to a holiday full of reasons to celebrate, and plenty of time to reflect on why you love your dog.
