Puppy Potty Training Problems

Having Puppy Potty Training Problems? We understand!

Potty training a puppy can be very frustrating.  We follow 4 basic rules.

The first rule is that your puppy should be on a leash or in a crate at all times.  If you cannot watch your pup, put him in a crate.  When you are able to be with him, keep him on a leash right by you.  It is ok and advisable to tether the leash under your chair or somewhere nearby.

Secondly, give your pup great feedback.  When you take her out to go potty, first give a command such as “Go Potty Ginger” or “Do your business Ginger.”  The moment she does give her lots of verbal and physical praise.  Throw a Potty Party!  This lets her know she is doing the right thing by going potty outside.  When she is by you on a leash and makes a mistake, quickly take her outside.

The third rule is to be sure your pup is on a regular food and water schedule.  Just like babies, what goes in come right out, so you need to know when he is eating and drinking.

Finally, be sure to clean up really well after any accidents.  Use a product designed to specifically get the urine smell out.
